Fire Pit Cooking Set — Solid Plate, Grill & Pot Holder

Turn any of our fire pits into a full outdoor kitchen.

A complete cooking set, designed and manufactured in Australia to suit every fire pit we've ever made — past and present. The central 304 stainless rod drops straight through the laser-cut mounting hole built into all our fire pits, so whether you bought yours this year or years ago, this set fits.

Set it up, season the plates, and you've got a solid hotplate, a grill, and a pot holder that all swing in over the coals and back out again — and move up and down to whatever height the fire is asking for.

What's in the set

  • Solid hotplate (480mm, 5mm thick) — flat, even heat. The bacon-and-eggs surface. Pancakes, onions, smash burgers, anything that needs a proper griddle.
  • Grill hotplate (480mm, 5mm thick) — laser-cut grill bars for steaks, sausages, and chops, with that direct-flame char and the fat dripping where it should.
  • Pot holder (530mm) — a stainless swing-arm that suspends a camp oven, pot, or billy over the heat for stews, soups, or campfire beans.
  • 1m 304 stainless rod — the spine of the system. Tapered spear end to drive into the ground, and a recessed top section so you can drive it home with a hammer or mallet.
  • Pole clamps — set each surface at the cooking height the fire wants. High and gentle for a slow simmer, low and hard for a fast sear.

What it does well

  • Fits every Core Earth fire pit. The laser-cut mounting hole has been part of every model we've built, so this set is a genuine upgrade for existing owners, not just new buyers.
  • Swings and lifts. Each surface pivots in over the coals and back out again, and clamps up or down the pole — so you load, cook, and serve without crowding the fire.
  • Real height control. The pole clamps let you dial each surface to match how the fire's behaving, instead of fighting a fixed grate.
  • Free-standing option. Spear the rod into the ground beside a campfire and you've got the same cooking setup with no fire pit at all — handy out bush.

Material

We made a deliberate call on materials here, and it's worth explaining.

The hotplates are Australian mild steel. Not because it's cheaper — because after seasoning, it's simply the best cooking surface there is. It builds a slick, non-stick patina the same way a good cast-iron pan does, holds heat evenly, and only gets better the more you use it.

At 5mm thick, these plates carry serious thermal mass — they come up to an even heat and hold it when cold food hits the surface, instead of dropping away like thin pressed cookware does.

We tried stainless for the cooking surfaces and rejected it. Food sticks, it makes a mess, and it never develops the seasoning that makes outdoor cooking easy. So mild steel it is — season it once, look after it, and it'll cook beautifully for decades.

The rod and pot holder are 304 stainless steel. That's where stainless is the right answer — they're the structural and heat-bearing parts that live in the weather and don't need to hold seasoning. 304 grade handles the heat and the elements without rusting away.

Looking after your plates

Like any good cast-iron or steel cookware, the plates want a season before first use and a wipe of oil after each cook. Don't put them through the dishwasher and don't scrub the seasoning off. Treated right, they'll outlast most of the kitchens they get compared to.

Who are we?

We're a small Australian manufacturer based in Somersby, NSW. We make things out of steel because steel, done properly, outlives almost everything else in a garden or a home.

This cooking set came from using our own fire pits and wanting to do more with them. So we built the surfaces we actually wanted to cook on — and chose the materials by what works over the fire, not what's cheapest or flashiest to list.

Every piece is made here, from Australian steel, by our team. When you buy from us, the money stays in Australia — funding Australian jobs, Australian materials, and Australian-made products built to a quality standard rather than a price point.

Buy once. Cook on it for decades. Keep the manufacturing here.
