Product Information
6mm DURAGAL Tree Rings
Heavyweight Australian steel. Modern silver finish. Built to outlive the garden around it.
For people who want the substance and permanence of our 6mm Corten ring, but in a clean silver finish rather than a rusty one.
Made differently
Rolled in-house at our Somersby factory from 6mm BlueScope DURAGAL® — the same heavy-gauge galvanised steel specified in structural fabrication and commercial framing. Inside the base of the ring, tucked low where mulch will cover it, we weld our own proprietary bracket system. Your ring arrives in one piece with a single split — enough to open, place around your existing tree or plant, then pull closed with the 316 marine-grade stainless hardware we include.
At 6mm the ring sits on its own weight. No pegging, no anchoring, no lateral movement. You place it once and it stays exactly where you put it.
The join is invisible from the outside once installed — no staples, no exposed screws, no panelled look.
The finish
Your ring arrives bright silver — crisp and almost architectural — then dulls to a soft matte grey over the first year outdoors. That dulling isn't wear; it's the zinc stabilising into a protective oxide layer that will see the ring through decades without peeling, flaking, or needing a single coat of paint.
If you ever want colour, DURAGAL® also makes an excellent base for paint once it's weathered in — a quality substrate for matching the ring to a specific landscape palette.
What arrives at your door
- One pre-rolled, pre-welded 6mm DURAGAL® ring
- 316 marine-grade stainless steel hardware
- No construction. No tools required. Open, place, bolt, backfill — done.
Our 1520mm rings ship in two pieces for safe handling. Once installed and backfilled, both joins are equally indistinguishable from the rest of the ring.
Why 6mm
6mm is overkill for a backyard tree ring, and that's precisely the point. The 1.6mm galvanised rings common at garden centres are nearly four times thinner — these read as something else entirely. Thick enough to sit without pegging, heavy enough to stay flat against the earth, substantial enough to feel architectural rather than decorative.
Pair it with contemporary homes, minimalist landscaping, or commercial projects where the edging needs to hold its own visually against everything else in the design.
Australian made, start to finish
BlueScope DURAGAL® steel, rolled and welded by our team at Somersby, NSW. Every ring keeps an Australian manufacturing job on Australian soil.
Material
Material — BlueScope DURAGAL® Galvanised Steel
Our 6mm tree rings are manufactured from BlueScope DURAGAL® — Australia's premium heavy-gauge galvanised steel, specified across structural fabrication, commercial framing, and engineered infrastructure where long-term performance isn't negotiable.
Unlike painted steel that starts rusting the moment the coating is scratched, DURAGAL® is protected by a metallurgically-bonded zinc layer that works on a fundamentally different principle. The zinc sacrifices itself to shield the steel underneath — and even if the surface is scratched or damaged, the surrounding zinc continues to protect the exposed steel beneath it. No painting. No flaking. No maintenance. The zinc is the protection.
The finish arrives bright silver — crisp, clean, almost architectural — then dulls over the first year outdoors into a soft matte grey. That dulling isn't wear; it's the zinc stabilising into the protective oxide layer that will see the ring through decades without peeling, flaking, or needing a single coat of paint.
For contemporary homes, modern landscaping, or any garden where the rusty Corten look isn't the right fit, this is the finish. And if you ever want colour, DURAGAL® also takes paint exceptionally well once weathered in — a quality base for matching your ring to a specific palette or design scheme.
Strength At 6mm thick, these rings aren't in the same conversation as anything else on the market. The 1.6mm galvanised rings common at garden centres are nearly four times thinner — these sit on the ground with the substance and permanence of a structural element, not a garden accessory. No pegging. No flexing. No movement. You place the ring once and it stays exactly where you put it, holding its round for decades.
6mm is overkill for a backyard ring, and that's precisely the point. It's the specification you choose when you want something that will outlive almost everything else in the garden.
In short: zero painting, zero maintenance, a finish that ages gracefully into a stable matte grey, and built from Australian steel by an Australian manufacturer. For a silver finish that has to live in the ground in Australian conditions — and do it with the visual weight of heavy steel — there genuinely isn't a better choice.

These flat rates reflect the reality of shipping a heavy, quality product. 3mm steel is dense — a full pallet is substantial freight. We're able to offer these rates through volume, and we think they're genuinely competitive for what's being moved.
Smaller orders? No problem. Enter your postcode at checkout and live shipping options will display, including express delivery if you need it in a hurry.
How is it delivered? Orders are strapped and wrapped on a pallet and sent direct from our factory. Your carrier will arrive with a tail lift and pallet jack and unload it to your property — you won't need to lift a thing off the truck.
