Semi-Circle Planter Rings — 6mm Corten & Galvanised

One simple curve. Whatever shape you can dream up.

A single semi-circle of 6mm Australian steel — and one of the most versatile things we make. Put two together and you've got a circle. Put four together and you've got a clover. Fan them out, overlap them, run them in a line: a petal, a cloud, a figure-eight, a winding garden division, a raised planter, or a flat-bottomed bed for turf. We make the curve. You make the shape.

Born from the offcut bin

This is the honest reason these exist — and we're proud of it.

When we cut our round tree rings, fire pits and other products from sheet steel, the process leaves offcuts behind. For most fabricators, that material goes straight in the scrap bin. We hate that. Throwing away good Australian BlueScope steel because it's the wrong shape for the last job never sat right with us.

So we found it a second life. These Semi-Circle Planter Rings are made from those offcuts — the curved drop-off that would otherwise be waste, turned into a genuinely useful product instead of scrap. A piece of material that was headed for the bin ends up shaping someone's garden for the next few decades. That's a far better outcome than the recycling skip.

Heavy steel, sharp price

Here's the part you'll like: because these are made from offcut material, we can price them keenly. You're getting genuine 6mm BlueScope plate — the same heavy gauge we put into products costing a great deal more — at a price that reflects where the steel came from, not what it can do. It's the rare case where the most sustainable option is also the best value on the shelf. Buy as many as you need to build your shape without the spend adding up the way solid-plate landscaping usually does.

One shape, endless layouts

The whole point of a semi-circle is what happens when you start combining them:

  • A planter — close them into a circle, an oval, a clover or a petal and backfill with soil for a raised garden bed that holds its shape for decades.
  • A division — run them as a flowing curved border to separate lawn from garden, mulch from path, one zone from another.
  • A step or tier — hammer them in, backfill with compacted decomposed granite, or fill with concrete and level them off. Stagger them up a slope and you've got proper tiered, terraced steps that turn an awkward gradient into a usable garden.
  • A statement — a four-leaf clover of grasses, a cloud-shaped bed of natives, an organic curved form that a straight-edged box could never give you.
  • A Sunday putting green — fill one with quality turf and you've got a tidy little practice green for the afternoon with family and mates. (We won't tell you how to read the break.)

If you can sketch it, you can probably build it out of these.

Two finishes — and one of them you can paint

Corten (rusty). BlueScope REDCOR® weathering steel — rusts on purpose to a rich, warm patina that seals itself and needs no maintenance. The classic Core Earth look.

Galvanised (silver). A clean, bright zinc finish that resists corrosion and looks sharp left exactly as it is. It's also the perfect base for paint — if you want your planters to match a fence, a wall, or a colour scheme, the galvanised finish takes coating beautifully. We recommend Dulux Metalshield spray cans: easy to apply, made for steel, and available in a wide range of colours. Or leave it silver. Your call.

6mm — so it stays exactly where you put it

These are 6mm plate — the same heavy-gauge steel we put into our tree rings and fire pits, not the flimsy stuff that buckles when you lean a wheelbarrow on it. At 6mm, the rings hold their curve under the weight of backfilled soil, compacted granite or concrete, shrug off a knock from the mower, and stay true year after year. This is landscape steel built to outlast the garden it's shaping.

Dead-simple install

We've engineered the install to be genuinely easy — no concrete footings, no brackets, no fuss.

Each ring has 12mm steel rod welded low on the outer edge. You simply line the ring up, push it into the soil by hand, and tap it home with a rubber mallet. Once it's seated and you've backfilled, the rod is completely hidden underground — all you see is the clean curve of steel above the soil line.

The result is a rock-solid install. The rods anchor each piece deep enough that it won't shift, lean, or get nudged out of place — even loaded with soil, backfilled with granite, or bumped by foot traffic as a step.

Built to last, made in Australia

  • 6mm Australian steel, from rescued offcuts — heavy-gauge, holds its shape under load, and keeps good material out of the scrap bin
  • Priced on the offcut — genuine 6mm BlueScope plate at a keen price, because of where the steel comes from
  • Choice of Corten (rusty) or Galvanised (silver) — paint the galvanised with Dulux Metalshield, or leave either as-is
  • Welded 12mm rod legs — push in or mallet down for a sturdy, hidden anchor
  • Fully modular — planters, borders, tiered steps, putting greens; combine and rearrange into any shape you like
  • Australian made — fabricated by our team at Somersby, NSW
