Product Information

3mm Corten Tree Rings

Rolled in-house. One seamless join. Built to outlast the tree.

If you want a tree ring that looks like a single, continuous piece of steel around your tree — not a bolt-together kit — you've found it.

Made differently

We roll every ring at our Somersby factory from 3mm Bluescope Redcor Corten steel — substantially heavier and stronger than the thin-gauge imports most sellers ship. Inside the base of the ring, tucked low where mulch will cover it, we weld our own proprietary bracket system. Your ring arrives in one piece with a single split — enough to open, place around your existing tree or plant, then pull closed with the 316 marine-grade stainless hardware we include.

Once installed, the join is invisible from the outside. No staples, no exposed screws, no panelled look. It reads as one continuous ring — because that's essentially what it is.

What arrives at your door

  • One pre-rolled, pre-welded 3mm Corten ring
  • 316 marine-grade stainless steel hardware
  • No construction. No tools required. Open, place, bolt, backfill — done.

Our 1520mm rings ship in two pieces for safe handling. Once installed and backfilled, both joins are equally indistinguishable from the rest of the ring.

The finish develops

Your ring arrives in raw silver steel. Over the first few weeks outside it transitions into a rich, even rust patina — and that patina then seals the surface and protects the steel underneath. Corten is the same material used for bridges and public sculpture; it's designed to live outside and get better with age, not worse.

Why 3mm matters

Thinner rings (1.5–2mm, common in the market) deform under mulch pressure, lose their shape, and flex when anything leans against them. 3mm holds its round permanently, sits heavily enough to stay put without pegging, and lasts for decades rather than years. It costs more to roll and more to ship — we've just never been willing to cut that corner.

Australian made, start to finish

The steel is Australian Bluescope Redcor. The rolling, welding, and packing is done by our team at Somersby, NSW. Every ring you buy keeps an Australian manufacturing job on Australian soil — and if that matters to you, you're buying from the right people.

Material

Material — BlueScope REDCOR® Weathering Steel

Our tree rings are manufactured from 3mm BlueScope REDCOR® — Australia's premium weathering steel, and the same material used in architectural cladding, bridges, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Unlike standard mild steel that rusts through, REDCOR® is engineered to rust on purpose. When exposed to the elements, it develops a dense, tightly bonded patina that actively seals the surface and stops corrosion from penetrating deeper. No paint. No coating. No maintenance. The rust is the protection.

The result is a rich, warm, earthy tone that deepens and evolves over time — blending naturally into garden environments in a way that painted or galvanised alternatives simply can't replicate.

Strength
REDCOR® is a higher-tensile steel — the upper end of what's available in this product category.

At 3mm thick, this gives our tree rings a rigidity and weight that you'll feel the moment you pick it up. Compared to the 1.6mm products common in the market, it's not a subtle difference — it's night and day.

In short: it gets stronger and better looking with age, requires zero upkeep, and is built from Australian steel by an Australian manufacturer. There's genuinely nothing better suited to a product that lives in the ground, year-round, in Australian conditions.

These flat rates reflect the reality of shipping a heavy, quality product. 3mm steel is dense — a full pallet is substantial freight. We're able to offer these rates through volume, and we think they're genuinely competitive for what's being moved.

Smaller orders? No problem. Enter your postcode at checkout and live shipping options will display, including express delivery if you need it in a hurry.

How is it delivered? Orders are strapped and wrapped on a pallet and sent direct from our factory. Your carrier will arrive with a tail lift and pallet jack and unload it to your property — you won't need to lift a thing off the truck.
