6mm Corten Plate Pots — Pre-Rusted Weathering Steel

Built from 6mm BlueScope REDCOR® plate steel — the same grade used in bridges and large-scale public sculpture — these are serious landscape pieces, not garden accessories. Each pot is fabricated in-house at our Somersby factory, pre-rusted to a rich, even patina, and arrives ready to position and plant.
Plate, not cast
This matters, and it's worth being specific about: our pots are fabricated from 6mm Corten plate steel, not cast. Plate construction gives you the full material properties of Corten — the engineered patina, the structural strength, the even colour across every surface — with no casting seams, no thin spots, and none of the variable weathering you get with cast pieces.
If you're comparing 6mm Corten pots across the market, the specific question worth asking any seller is: plate or cast? That single distinction drives the price gap, the lifespan, and how the pot will age.
Pre-rusted — ready on arrival
Our pots are weathered in-house before dispatch. No silver stage, no awkward transition period, no guessing whether the rust is forming evenly. What you see in the photos is what lands at your property — a finished, patinated piece ready to plant.
Three sizes, plus a Trio Pack
- 400mm wide × 600mm high — the entrance piece, a statement by a doorway or at the start of a path
- 500mm wide × 700mm high — the anchor, substantial enough to hold its own as a solo feature
- 600mm wide × 800mm high — architectural scale, a sculptural moment in the landscape
Trio Pack — all three sizes together at a heavily discounted price. Staggered in a cluster, the three heights read as a composed installation rather than three separate pots — a genuinely different effect than any single pot delivers on its own.
Weight and positioning
At 6mm plate, these are heavy. That's the point — you place them once and they stay exactly where you put them, no movement, no anchoring, no compromise.
For delivery and positioning, plan ahead: the larger sizes are two-person pieces at minimum, and for the 600×800 we recommend two people with pool noodles to roll it into final place. Our carriers deliver palletised to the hardest surface nearest your installation point.
Early-patina placement note
Our pre-rust process is weather-accelerated but takes a few more weeks outdoors to fully stabilise. In that early period — particularly in the first rains after delivery — pots can mark pale concrete, timber decks, or unsealed stone directly beneath them.
If you're placing them on a surface you'd rather not stain, we recommend either:
- Positioning the pots on gravel, in a garden bed, or on grass for 4–6 weeks to let the patina fully seal before final placement, or
- Sealing the surface beneath with a quality penetrating sealer before positioning
Drainage
Pots ship with drainage holes pre-drilled in the base. Using them indoors or on a surface where drainage isn't wanted? The holes plug cleanly with urethane sealant — a two-minute job before you plant.
A note on the photography
The children in our product photos are there to give a sense of scale — photographs genuinely understate the presence of these pots in a garden.
