LazyEdge joiners are the heart of the system — our own registered design, manufactured in Australia from the same 3mm BlueScope REDCOR® weathering steel as every other component in the range.

How they work

Cut your edging to length. Sleeve the joiner over the ends. Drive it into the ground with a rubber mallet. Done.

Every joiner has an integrated peg built in — no loose hardware, no separate parts, nothing to misplace on the grass. The cut end of your edging hides inside the joiner, so rough cuts disappear and the face of the system reads as a clean, deliberate vertical line where two lengths meet.

Two types

Straight joiners connect two lengths end to end — you'll need one per connection on any run longer than 2.4m.

Corner joiners handle direction changes at 90° or 45°, in both inside and outside configurations. Custom angles are available on request.

Picking the right corner:

• Inside corner — stand inside the garden bed at the corner. The edging wraps around you.
• Outside corner — stand outside the garden bed at the corner. The edging runs away from you in both directions.

Prefer to measure it yourself?

No worries — here's how.
 

1. Lineal metres

Run your tape measure along every edge you want to bed. Add the totals together. That's your lineal metre requirement.

Divide that total by 2.4 to work out how many full-length pieces you'll need. Round up.

Example: 30 lineal metres ÷ 2.4m = 12.5 lengths → order 13.

2. Joiners

You'll need one joiner for every connection between two lengths — which works out to one less than your total length count.

Example: 13 lengths → 12 joiners.

Joiners come in three types:

• Straight — connects two lengths end to end along a run
• Outside corner — for a corner where both edges run away from where you're standing
• Inside corner — for a corner where both edges run toward where you're standing

If you're standing at a corner and can't picture it, the rule is: outside corners wrap around a bed; inside corners tuck into one.

3. Pegs

At 3mm, LazyEdge is heavy enough that most installs don't need extra pegs between joiners — the joiners themselves have integrated pegs, and the edging weight alone holds a straight run in place once you've tapped it 5mm into the soil.

You will want loose pegs for:

• Starting or finishing a run against a wall, fence, or hard edge
• Holding tight curves or complex shapes in place
• Long unsupported runs in loose or sandy soil

Can I use LazyEdge around curves and circles?

Yes. LazyEdge bends smoothly by hand — slot your lengths into straight joiners and shape the run to whatever curve you want.

For tighter radius work (around a tree, a circular feature bed, or anywhere the curve is sharp), use loose pegs to hold the shape as you go: secure one end, curve the length, tap a peg in to hold it, then repeat. Once the full radius is locked in, sink the edging to its final height and pull any pegs you don't need.

For circles under 1.5m in diameter, we actually recommend our pre-rolled Tree Rings instead — they arrive already in a perfect circle and install in minutes without the curving work.
 

Do I need to buy pegs separately if I'm buying joiners?

Every LazyEdge joiner has a peg built in — and for short runs under 1.2m between joiners, that's all you need.

For anything longer, we recommend one extra peg per 2.4m length, placed roughly in the middle of the run. The 3mm gauge is rigid enough that this mid-point peg is plenty to lock a long straight line in place.

You'll also want loose pegs for:

• Starting or finishing a run against a wall, fence, or hard edge
• Tight curves or complex shapes that need the line held while you install
• Long unsupported runs in loose, sandy, or recently turned soil

How long does installation actually take?

Fast. Genuinely fast — this system was designed around install speed from day one.

The thing that slows down most edging installs is cutting lengths cleanly. LazyEdge sidesteps the problem entirely: your cut edge hides inside the joiner, so you can cut with a grinder in a few seconds and never worry about whether the cut line is perfectly straight. That alone saves an hour on most projects.

The rest of the install is:

1. Slide a length into a joiner
2. Slide the next length in from the other side
3. Tap the integrated peg into the ground with a rubber mallet
4. Repeat along the run
5. Once the whole line is in place, tap the top edge of the lengths down to sink the bottom and get that "rising from the earth" look

That's the whole install. No drilling, no screws, no bolts, no pre-drilled holes.
 

Can I use this to retain soil in a raised bed?

LazyEdge is designed as garden edging — a crisp visual division between lawn, beds, paths, and paving. It's not engineered as a structural retaining wall.

For light soil retention along the face of a raised bed, the 3mm gauge holds up well. For proper retaining over 150mm in height, you'll want a dedicated retaining product — reach out and we'll point you in the right direction.
 

Will it rust through over time?

Garden edging lives in damp soil, year-round, in direct contact with organic matter. Over a long enough timeframe, nothing buried in that environment lasts forever — but our 3mm products are engineered to last far, far longer than the thinner gauges common on the market.

Corten (REDCOR®) — Rusty finish The rust patina on Corten is a protective layer: it forms, seals the surface, and dramatically slows further corrosion. This is the same steel used in bridges and architectural cladding specifically because it handles decades of outdoor exposure without maintenance. In above-ground applications it will outlast most of what's around it. In buried applications — permanently wet soil, coastal environments, or high-salt conditions — the rate of life will depend on your local conditions.

Galvanised (GALVABOND®) — Silver finish The zinc layer sacrificially protects the steel underneath and continues to protect scratched or damaged areas. It's the standard coating used on rural fencing and infrastructure for the same reason — it handles long-term outdoor exposure well. Like any galvanised product, ultimate lifespan depends on soil chemistry and conditions; we expect many years of service in typical Australian garden conditions.

At 3mm, both finishes have significantly more material to work with than the 1.5–2mm products on the market — which is why we've spent six years selling 3mm without a single return. We don't offer a lifetime guarantee against corrosion, because nobody honestly can for steel in soil. What we stand behind is this: an honest, heavy, Australian-made product built from the best materials in the category, performing far beyond the thin imports it's compared to.

Can I cut the lengths at home?

Yes — a grinder with a standard cutting wheel does the job in seconds. The cut end slides inside the joiner, so there's nothing to finish or deburr.

What happens if my lawn mower hits it?

Nothing. 3mm steel shrugs off mower wheels, line trimmers, and general backyard impact without denting, bowing, or deforming. This is the single biggest practical reason we insist on 3mm over the 1.5–2mm gauges common on the market — thinner edging gets wrecked the first time a mower clips it.
 

How deep do I need to sink it into the ground?

As little as 5mm is enough to hold the edge in place once the joiners are pegged in. Most customers sink it further — enough to hide the bottom edge and leave a clean line at ground level — but structurally it doesn't need to be deep. The joiners' integrated pegs are what anchor the system.

BlueScope REDCOR® Weathering Steel
 

Our LazyEdge lengths are manufactured from 3mm BlueScope REDCOR® — Australia's premium weathering steel, and the same material used in architectural cladding, bridges, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Unlike standard mild steel that rusts through, REDCOR® is engineered to rust on purpose. When exposed to the elements, it develops a dense, tightly-bonded patina that actively seals the surface and stops corrosion from penetrating deeper. No paint. No coating. No maintenance. The rust is the protection.

The result is a rich, warm, earthy tone that deepens and evolves over time — blending naturally into garden environments in a way that painted or galvanised alternatives simply can't replicate.

Strength REDCOR® is a high-tensile steel, at the upper end of what's available in this product category. At 3mm thick, these lengths carry a rigidity and weight you feel the moment you pick one up. Compared to the 1.6mm products common at garden centres and big-box retailers, it's not a subtle difference — it's a different category of product entirely. 3mm holds its line without bowing, shrugs off lawn-mower knocks, and keeps its shape through decades of soil pressure and seasonal movement.

In short: it gets stronger and better-looking with age, requires zero upkeep, and is built from Australian steel by an Australian manufacturer. For a product that lives in the ground year-round in Australian conditions, there genuinely isn't a better choice.

These flat rates reflect the reality of shipping a heavy, quality product. 3mm steel is dense — a full pallet is substantial freight. We're able to offer these rates through volume, and we think they're genuinely competitive for what's being moved.

How is it delivered? Orders are strapped and wrapped on a pallet and sent direct from our factory. Your carrier will arrive with a tail lift and pallet jack and unload it to your property — you won't need to lift a thing off the truck.

Steel edging is a wonderful addition to any garden — and like any solid building material, it deserves a little thought around safety, particularly in households with young children or pets.
 

Design intent — a visible edge is a safe edge

LazyEdge is designed to sit visibly above ground, creating a clear, defined barrier that people and animals can easily see and step around. The crisp top edge is part of the aesthetic, and it's also what makes the system safe in everyday garden use.
 

Sharp edges

During manufacturing, cut steel edges can be sharp. The weathering process naturally softens them over time, but before installation we recommend running a flap-disc grinding wheel along any exposed cut edges — particularly any lengths you've trimmed at home with a cutting wheel. It takes a couple of minutes per cut and makes a meaningful difference.

Always wear gloves and safety glasses when handling raw or freshly cut steel.
 

Installation tools

Use a rubber mallet to drive joiners and pegs into the ground — never a steel hammer directly on the visible edging surface, which can dent or distort the finish.
 

Burial use — not what this product is for

If you're planning to bury the edging as an underground divider rather than a visible border, this isn't the right fit. For that application, we'd recommend our 6mm Lengths or InfinityEdge Rolled-Top range — both purpose-built for in-ground use.
